NC Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson hospitalized with second-degree burns following incident at campaign event

North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson received treatment for second-degree burns at Northern Regional Hospital following an incident at a campaign event in Mount Airy on Friday night, as reported by Mike Lonergan, communications director for Robinson’s gubernatorial campaign.
Lonergan stated that Robinson is “in good spirits, appreciates the outpouring of well wishes, and is excited to return to the campaign trail as scheduled first thing tomorrow morning.”
The burns resulted from an accident at an automotive show, with law enforcement confirming that no foul play was involved, according to CNN.
As the Republican nominee for governor, Robinson made several campaign stops across the state on Friday, culminating in his appearance at the Mayberry Truck Show and Parade in Mount Airy, where the incident occurred.
The campaign has not released further details regarding the incident.
NewsNation was the first to report on Robinson's hospitalization, which a source close to the campaign verified for CNN later that evening.
This hospitalization comes amid ongoing repercussions from CNN's coverage of Robinson’s controversial past comments on a pornography website’s message board. Many prominent Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, have sought to distance themselves from him; Trump notably did not mention Robinson during a recent campaign appearance in North Carolina, despite his earlier endorsement.
National Republican groups have also withdrawn financial support for Robinson, as several campaign officials have resigned and his top staff member is set to leave.
